“Who do you want to be your boss one day?” This question, posed at the 2023 Emerging Leaders Conference hosted by the American Property Casualty Insurance Association, inspired the formation of a group for young professionals at ICC. Conference attendees, Amanda Fagan and Avalon Thomas-Roebal, created a mission statement on their way home from the Conference, then worked with Human Resources to launch the group in 2023.
EPICC, or Emerging Professionals of ICC, is open to all employees but is geared toward new hires or those who are new to the insurance industry. Members gain connections and industry knowledge, while building confidence and charting their career paths. EPICC’s goal is to cultivate the next generation of insurance industry leaders.
A popular EPICC event for group members is the Management and Motivation panels. These are interview-style presentations with members of the management team, who share advice and impart wisdom from their career at ICC and in the insurance industry. Books that are recommended by the speakers are raffled off to attendees of the presentation.
Other popular gatherings are the virtual and in-person happy hours, which allow for networking and connection within the group. With a growing number of employees who work away from the office, EPICC has endeavored to provide a variety of opportunities for members to connect in whatever way works best for them.
ICC has had a Mentor Program for new hires for many years, and EPICC members began serving as mentors in 2024. Mentors and mentees meet once per month to job shadow each other and to hone skills like problem solving and resilience. These meetings benefit both mentor and mentee, and they allow EPICC members to gain leadership experience early in their careers at ICC.
